Conflict Resolution: Facilitation

The series of conflict resolution methods continues today. The topic of discussion will be Facilitation. Facilitation is the process that relies on a neutral third party to help facilitate a meeting, conference, etc so that each parties can reach their objectives. Generally facilitation services are used by project managers who work with various divisions or teams to complete a project. A facilitator will be used to ensure that all parties realize what the mutual goals, who teams will toward achieving this goal. A facilitator can also assist with helping create deadlines, and so on. Group facilitation is a very common technique used by corporations as well to complete major projects.

Group facilitation can also be used for family conflict resolution. For example, a family can hire a facilitator to help create the goals towards meeting a common objective. The process is the same as the one used in a corporate environment, with the difference being the setting, environment, people, and the type of issue. Regardless, facilitators encourage open communication, clarification from each party as they communicate, help keep focus of the objective, and so on.
