Violence in the US

This year alone we have had several violent episodes and incidents that have occurred. As of recently, probably within the last six months, the increase in violence has presented itself in our society. From the Batman shooting, to the Sikh temple shooting, and now the NY shooting, you can wonder what will occur next? We can only wonder what is going on in our society and why is this happening?

There are several reasons. It seems that many issues can be used as a blaming technique, however, it all comes down to emotional and mental distress that enables these individuals to just "lose it".

The Batman shooting occurred because a young man wanted to think he was the "joker" of society. Although it is unrealistic, he is deemed to be insane. We can blame society for his illness, but in reality, there exists a chemical imbalance that enabled this man to act in the manner that he did.

The Sikh temple shooting occurred because of another unstable individual. He was not only racist/prejudice, but in reality, he too has a chemical imbalance. These acts are not normal. It is one thing to hate a group or an individual, but it is another issue when that individual kills.

The NY shooting that occurred today can be blamed on the bad economy. The killer killed his ex-boss. It is important to note that the man was fired last year from his job. So why did he kill his boss today? Again, we cannot blame society for the actions committed by people. This man also must have a chemical imbalance that allowed him to pull the trigger.

Remember, we cannot blame society, norms, values, culture, etc on our actions. We are also responsible for what we do. What is considered "normal" to society, may not be considered "normal" to ourselves. This is what has allowed an increase in the violence in the US and the rest of the world. The conditions in society have contributed to how these individuals have behaved. However, their behavior is far from normal as it is unethical and immoral. However, the violence in the US may be due to our relaxed laws that enables these individuals to purchase weapons. Perhaps the US can place stricter laws on gun control. The US may reconsider placing harsher treatments on individuals who kill? Just a question of thought.

The Importance of Team Building

Many of us work with teams, in teams, or for teams. Regardless of the fact that you may or may not work in a team, team building is essential. Team building can also be useful in your personal lives with holding family events, etc. So what is team building? Physically a team consists of two or more individuals. Team building is the process of creating a team that is functional both emotionally and mentally. Team building is very important to your environment. Why?

Well team building allows a harmonious flow in day to day events. If you work in a company, then the essential component of a team includes having to rely on another individual to assist you conduct your work. For example, if you work in the logistics industry, and if you are a broker, you may rely on customs validating your bond. Without this validation, you as a broker cannot allow the cargo to be moved from one location to the next. So you need to build a relationship with the customs offices that you work with daily. The connection is be mentally connected. This will allow you to complete your work flow easily.

Another example can consist of you as a manager trying to run an office. You rely on your employees to provide you with any essential supplies that need to be ordered. For example, as an office manager in a medical firm, you may rely on the PA or Doctor who advises that you need to order more cotton balls, etc. So we each depend on someone else to assist us to complete our job functions.

Therefore, if you get along with your team members then it will allow your job functions to run smoothly.  This is essential to ensure that all employees work productively.

Team building therefore is very essential. Each company, despite the industry or size focuses on team building, as it provides a smoother functionality of its processes. Employees are also forced to stay on focus in a team. For instance, if one individual loses focuses, it will disrupt the daily flow. This will cause added pressure, lack of communication, hostile environment, etc. Therefore, it is in the best interest of each company/organization to ensure that their teams function effectively and efficiently.

As a result, team building exercises become important. Team building exercises are healthy and needed to ensure that all employees get along with one another. It also provides a good break from the day to day routine. Team building exercises compose of teams taking a day off and participating on outdoor activities, indoor activities, holidays, weekend trips, etc. The company generally pays for the team to have fun.

Examples of team building exercises include: playing golf during a weekday; going to kayaking and having a picnic; a weekend trip to treat the employees. In this economy, financial concerns exist. Therefore, employers can budget for ice-cream parties each week, or every other week. An employer can buy breakfast, lunch, etc. Or simply, a business can close down early for 1 hour and play games with its employees. Prizes can be given as incentives.

Remember, it is essential to engage in team building exercises because it is healthy for your employees to know what "fun" is with their colleagues outside of the day to day routine. This will further result in a higher level of employee satisfaction and appreciation, which will result in an increase in productivity.
