Domestic Terrorism: The Massacre of "Batman: The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, CO

YouTube Video: Dr. Jason Campbell, Professor at Nova Southeastern University: International War and Terrorism Lecture Series (2012).

The events that occurred in Aurora, CO are quite unfortunate. For the individuals in Aurora, CO who attended the midnight premiere of Batman: The Dark Knight Rises became the victims of a troubled person. As a result, several people lost their lives and many were injured. It was in their best effort for the police and the FBI to ensure that their entrance into the ex gunman's apartment was possible. Although it is unknown why this male figure had the desire to kill innocent people, or pretend he was the joker, but what is true is that the man most probably lived in a fantasy world. Perhaps the character of the joker portrayed in The Dark Knight may have intrigued this troubled individual to behave in the manner that he did and bring alive a modern day joker. Again, he may have been caught up in a fantasy world. Needless to say, it is difficult to determine what exactly caused this individual to lose his mind.

So such behavior can be deemed as domestic terrorism. As Dr. Jason Campbell, Professor at Nova Southeastern University (2012) posts in his Youtube video listed above, domestic terrorism occurs by an individual who resides in the same country where the disaster was caused. In this case, the individual who killed many and injured several obviously was a US citizen. Although the media has portrayed this event as a massacre, the technical term is domestic terrorism.

Watch this video and share your thoughts on domestic terrorism in relation to the killings in Aurora, CO.
