Cyber Bullying: Amanda Todd

Recently in Vancouver, Canada, Amanda Todd was found dead. What was the cause of her death? Cyber bullying. Bullying despite where it stems from needs to be prevented. Schools, parents, and guardians have an obligation to ensure that your child is not bullying another child. Likewise, it is your obligation to ensure that your child is not being bullied. The death of Amanda Todd is very difficult to read, however, the issue of bullying continues. Lately, it seems that bullying is stemming out of control in schools. Teens face bullying during their must vulnerable years. So what can be done to prevent it? A few resolution tips can be found below:

The first step is to engage parents with school leaders to develop a committee to deter bullying. In elementary school, most schools have a program known as the "safety patrol". If possible, parent volunteers should "patrol" the schools and hallways to ensure that bullying is prevented. It is difficult for parents to volunteer as they also work during the day. However, those parent (s) who do not work or are stay at home parents may volunteer to patrol the hallways.

The second step is to create awareness by educating teens, parents, teachers, and guardians on the consequences of bullying. Assessments should be done through school surveys where teens can confidentially illustrate that they are being bullied. Teens should also be taught how to recognize bullying and standing up against it. If teens can unite to create a group such as teens against bullying and campaign to prevent it, we can hope it will spread like an epidemic across the world. This will be a good cause to prevent teen bullying through various mediums.

The third step is to publicly hold the bullies responsible for their actions. Through public humiliation, these bullies can come to finally realize that what they have done is wrong on all levels. They should also be forced to obtain medical and psychiatric help. The reason being, their has to be some form of chemical imbalance for an individual to find any pleasure in hurting someone else.
